The Bauchi State Police Command has warned politicians and other stakeholders against electoral violence, ballot box snatching, thuggery, vote buying and other acts capable of disrupting Monday’s Local Government elections.
The State Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, said perpetrators, sponsors and their accomplices would be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law, irrespective of their status or political affiliation.
The warning was contained in a statement issued on Saturday by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, ahead of the August 17 elections across the state’s 20 Local Government Areas.
The command said it had deployed personnel to strategic locations across the state to safeguard lives, property and electoral materials before, during and after the elections.
CP Aliyu also directed personnel to maintain neutrality and professionalism while ensuring respect for human rights and strict compliance with extant laws.
The Command urged residents to remain peaceful and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through its emergency lines.
